The Perth International returns to The Race to Dubai when in 2016 when it takes place at Lake Karrinyup Country Club in February, with the tri-sanctioned by the European Tour, Asian Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia.

Australian Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the event had moved from October to February 25-28 to help attract the best possible field.

“For the past three years the Perth International has been held in October, but hosting it earlier in the year means the tournament will now be staged on the back of events in the Middle East and South East Asia, and that will help attract a stronger player field,” Dr Hames said.

“It’s also a great time of year to showcase Western Australia, our fantastic weather and golfing amenities.”

The Minister said the Perth International would be the only golf tournament in Australia to receive tri-sanctioning from the PGA Tour of Australasia, European Tour and Asian Tour.

“The added endorsement will further increase the depth of the field and attract players from all three tours,” he said.

“The tournament has seen some of the world’s best golfers compete in WA including

Dustin Johnson, Victor Dubuisson and golf Major winners Charl Schwartzel, Jason Dufner and Geoff Ogilvy, and we look forward to attracting another exciting line-up of golfing celebrities next year.”

The Perth International is proudly supported by the State Government through Tourism Western Australia. Dr Hames said hosting international sporting events of this calibre was part of the Government’s strategy to grow the value of tourism from the current $8.7 billion to $12 billion by 2020.

“The Perth International provides significant exposure for the State by generating tens of millions of dollars of media coverage across Australia and in key international markets such as China, Indonesia, Germany, the UK and the US,” he said.

“In addition it attracts tens of thousands of spectators, which helps to promote Perth as a vibrant and diverse global city.”
